A lovely reflection on a privilege like no other captured by these tiny people who grace our lives. And they are always with us as some of their DNA imprints within a mother’s biology.
Amazing, true, good and beautiful. Thank you for sharing these wonderful thoughts! As the parent of a 12 year old boy, I understood from the moment he was born that he would fundamentally and radically upend my understanding of what my life and existence, my ambitions, my consciousness meant to me. His birth resulted in a complete rearranging of what my purpose in life would be going forward.
I believe that many of us do not get over our learned or inherent selfishness until we have a child and we willingly accept the massive responsibility of your new role in life as a parent entrusted with the Miracle of a life you helped to create.
I have so often heard in so many different ways Parents who often say that if they never get anything right in their life, they must be successful as a father or a mother in their role as a parent. “Failure is not an option.”
I think many parents pour their best selves into their child and their sacred commission as a parent as they raise their child with the best of themselves.
Dear Hollie, That is a very beautiful piece! I especially like your sense that you exist to love. What a massive calling that is! I think that, actually, is the purpose of all of us -- just to love, in all the multifarious ways opportunity expresses itself in our lives. thank you for writing this gorgeous piece of stillness and love!
