The shooting at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden wasn’t supposed to happen on American soil. But when Ndiaga Diagne circled the crowded Austin bar in his SUV on March 1st, just hours after US-Israeli strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, and opened fire, killing three and wounding 14, he shattered any illusions about how far this war might reach.
The naturalized American citizen wore a sweatshirt reading “Property of Allah” over a shirt emblazoned with Iran’s flag. At his Pflugerville home, investigators found Iranian flags and photographs of Iranian leaders. The FBI is now examining whether Diagne was a sleeper proxy or independently motivated. Either way, Iranian-linked terrorism sits at the center of the investigation.
Here is what is going on.
