I love that you have learned to embrace those moments of joy in the midst of all the suffering you write about. I also love your line about how success in DC "often looks like expensive unhappiness".
I am a follower of Christ, so I will often take the hard news stories and lift up a prayer for those who are suffering. I know his heart breaks for the suffering as well. That time spent in prayer gives me a release to then enjoy my grandchildren, or a new snowfall or a walk.
